Submission Guidelines

The Contax G Pages are always looking for photographs. This is a "member-supported" site, meaning that I usually won't exercise editorial discretion about what goes in except to protect my legal liability (see note below). Basically, you can submit whatever you like, and I will attempt to put it in its proper place on this site, within the bounds of space, test, and legality.

You can submit photos in the following categories:

  • Gallery - each participant is entitled to a single page, with one or more photographs. Generally, most people stick to about four photos at any given time. Gallery pages will run until we start getting low on space, and then I will start removing the oldest inactive pages.
  • G-Whiz - for the G-Whiz weekends, because of their popularity, each participant is asked to submit only one photo, and they're all displayed on a page together.
  • Critique - the Photo Critique is a single photograph that runs for a week, and people are encouraged to submit their comments on it. Generally, I try to change the pictures every Monday. If I'm out of submissions, I will select one of my own. You've been warned.
  • Articles, Photo Essays - if you'd like to write an article or a photo essay, here's your chance to live it up. Check out the editorials page for information on the sorts of things I think readers might find interesting, or send me your ideas!

For each submission, please email your photos to the proper address, so I can keep them sorted out:

PLEASE NOTE: I live in the United Kingdom, and am therefore subject to its laws. The UK has recently passed a law that makes it illegal to publish photographs of children (under age 16) without the permission of their parents, unless there is an overwhelming need in the public's interest (such as photographs of convicted murderers). If you send me photographs of minor children, I will have to insist that you provide such permission along with it. There is one exception: if you send me photographs of your own children, I will assume that you, by sending the photographs to be published, are implicitly granting your permission to publish them. I realise that I haven't been enforcing this rule strictly in the past, but I will be doing so in the future, as I have been advised that it is in my own best interest.

Photo Submissions. Your photographs should be no larger than 640x480 resolution, and they should be in JPEG format. Include your personal details (name & email at a minimum) and any copyright information and permissions if necessary. If possible, include as many technical details (camera, lens, film, f/stop, shutter speed, filtration, etc.) as possible, as many list members are very interested in how the photo was made as well as what it says. Send the photo to gallery@contaxg.com, and I will make every effort to have them up and available in a few days. Here are some other guidelines:

  • Resolution: for 35mm, a resolution of 600x400 pixels is about optimal in terms of image quality versus download time.
  • Please ensure that your JPEG files have a .JPG file extension; without this, my software won't recognize it as an image file, and treats it like a text file, with sometimes disastrous consequences.
  • Please don't use the character "#" in your file names; this is interpreted as an HTML tag and the image won't load or display properly.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
